Feel the Power of Qiantang Tidal Bore This Mid-Autumn Festival 2018-11-16
Qiantang River Tidal Bore is one of the three largest Tidal Bores in the world and stands well above the other three. Every year on the eighteenth day of the eighth lunar month, which falls on September 18 this year, people flood to the river bank to view nature’s masterpiece created by the unique landscape of the river and self-rotation and gravity of the earth.

The custom of watching tidal bores goes back to the Three Kingdoms Period (220 – 280), gaining popularity during the time of the Tang and Song dynasties (618 – 1279). Throughout history it has lured a constant stream of people to its river bank among which are poets who have left behind them a considerable number of poems in which to marvel at the Tidal Bore.

Great places to view Qiantang River Tidal Bore include Yan’guan in Haining, Xiaoshan Tidal Bore Watching City, Xiasha Bridge, Qibao, Sanbao, City Balcony, Nanxin Bridge and Jiuxi.

Yan’guan Town in Haining, Zhejiang is the most renowned place in which to watch the tidal bore which accounts for the alias of Qiantang River Tidal Bore – Haining Tidal Bore. Every year the Qiantang River Tidal Bore Watching Festival is held here and this year the 23rd Qiantang River (Haining) Tidal Bore Watching Festival will raise its curtain with an opening ceremony to be held on Sept. 15 in Baishitan Square in the Tidal Bore Watching Park in Yan’guan.

Besides watching the spectacular Qiantang River Tidal Bore this year’s festival will, from Sept.15 to 18, present visitors with lively markets, traditional temple fairs and folk performances as well as customs in which to worship the god of tide. Please note the 7th Haining Tidal Bore Music Festival will be held from Sept. 24 to 25.
