Tianshui Elementary School – Fit for a Prince or Princess 2018-10-11
Recently, word of the newly opened campus of Tianshui Elementary School hit the headlines and caused a craze in Hangzhou. Located minutes from the picturesque West Lake, the predominantly blue colored campus is shaped like a castle and boasts a European style building with 6-meter-wide corridors, classrooms with floor-to-ceiling windows and washrooms styled in different themes such as Hello Kitty and Doraemon. This school, fit for a Prince or Princess, is what most students would only ever dream about.

The new campus is located in No. 94, Dongpo Road where its palatial structure not only features the engraved characteristics of the poet Su Dongpu, a renowned poet of the Song Dynasty but also an open atrium where proud parents can rest while waiting for their studious offspring.

Unlike most teaching buildings, the one in Tianshui Elementary School features a wall made entirely of glass and is adjacent to a corridor six meters in width which is decorated with bookshelves made from colorful fishing nets.

On the second floor there is a performance room with a stage, enabling kids to show off their hidden talents and an arch from there also leads to a piano room, dance room and music room.

According to the designer – Prof. Wangwei from China Academy of Art, the walls of the teaching building are built using only eco-friendly materials, which enables good light transmission and sound absorption, creating a much better learning environment for both teachers and students. The teaching building is also equipped with air-conditioners and fresh air ventilation systems, which is rare in most public schools.

This elementary campus will, in no doubt, open a new chapter of Chinese education and will also become one of the West Lake’s educational landmarks.
