Hangzhou Art Exhibition

Since the 2014 Hangzhou International Contemporary Ceramic Art Biennale, Hangzhou has begun to invite influential and representative international contemporary ceramic artists in the form of themed exhibitions. “The 2014 Hangzhou International Contemporary Ceramic Biennale” was themed on “Mud and Breath” and this year’s biennale will be themed on “Return to Source” and will invite around 36 artists from nine countries which include the UK, US, Japan, Australia, South Korea and Finland.

The exhibited works vary extensively and include ceramic ware, ceramic sculpture and video installations and, above all, they represent the highest level of international contemporary ceramic creations. During the biennale, the China Academy of Art will hold “The 2016 Hangzhou International Handicraft Art Forum”, which invites internationally influential theorists, researchers and artists to share their experiences and insight into the development of handicrafts.

“Hangzhou Contemporary Young Ceramic Artists Biennale” was first introduced in 1998 and after 18 years it has developed into a significant academic exhibition in the realm of China’s contemporary ceramics. It is dedicated to building a platform for Chinese and foreign international contemporary artists to communicate, and in turn boosts the influence and population of China’s Contemporary Art in the world. “The 10th Chinese Young Ceramic Artists Work Biennale” will exhibit works of 130 artists from 36 art institutes / ceramic producing areas of 16 provinces. The exhibits are of a wide diversity and are a collective display of China’s contemporary ceramic art.
