Yuhang - the Cradle of Liangzhu Culture
Yuhang is the cradle of Liangzhu Culture, the latter being renowned as the dawn of Chinese civilization and a tentative world cultural heritage. Owing to the Grand Canal which passes through this ancient town, Yuhang was, 1000 years ago, a flourishing trade centre and has ever since been the home of rice and fish, silk and satin as well as boasting a wealth of scenic spots and historic sites.
Liangzhu Culture Museum (良渚文化博物馆)
Opened in 1994, Liangzhu Culture Museum is dedicated to displaying a collection of archaeological artifacts from the Liangzhu Culture - the last Neolithic jade culture in the Yangtze River Delta dated 4,000 to 5,300 years ago and discovered in Yuhang County in 1936.
The Museum, compared to a treasure box for its priceless collections, is built on the site where many of Liangzhu’s treasures were unearthed. Out of its treasure trove of lacquer ware, porcelain and myriad of artifacts, it is the jade ware items that really stand out from the crowds.
Few places in China have such a complete and distinct collection of jade items and spanning a history from tribal times to the last century.
29 kilometers northeast of Hangzhou stands a hill covered in a sea of plum blossom, which since the Tang Dynasty (619-907) has captured the hearts of many spring holidaymakers.
With the name Chaoshan Hill, literally meaning a hill surpassing other hills, it is no wonder that it is higher than all the hills around. Not only recognized as one of China’s top three resorts for enjoying plum blossom, Chaoshan Hill is also home to two ancient plum trees, whose roots date back to the Tang and Song (960-1279) dynasties.
Address: Chaoshan Village, Tangqi Town, Yuhang District (余杭区塘栖镇超山村) Ticket: 60 RMB
