Idling in a Sea of Yellow Sunflowers

Van Gogh, a 19th century Dutch artist, is recognized for his ‘Sunflowers’, one of the masterpieces which he became famous for and we recognize these glorious flowers for their large flower heads with bright yellow petals and dark colored centers.

Sunflowers, wherever they may be grown or displayed, are visually inspiring and bring those who witness them one step closer to a brighter future. To idle in a sea of yellow sunflowers then visit three of Hangzhou’s university campuses which, dotted in and around town, will certainly add an academic charm to this golden viewing experience.

Pingfeng Campus of Zhejiang University of Technology

Info: Situated to the east of the university library lies this 10-mu (1 mu roughly equals 666 sq m) sunflower field, where the flowers grown here have been imported from abroad and then hybridized in Inner Mongolia. September and October are the two best months to view the vibrant yellow flowers.

Info: Xiangshan Campus is located in Zhuantang Town’s suburban area which is surrounded by a plateau of verdant mountains and crystal-clear waters. The design of the campus, using brick walls, stone walls and loam walls covered with plaster, aims to achieve harmony between its architecture and the environment. With nearly 8,000 square meters of sunflower fields, both student and visitors’ futures are guaranteed to feel brighter this autumn.

Info: After entering the campus, turn left and you will be greeted by a golden carpet of sunflowers. There are 10 mu sunflower fields inside the campus and the flowering period lasts for 20 days.
