Brief Introduction of Hangzhou

       Hangzhou is located in the southern part of the Yangtze River Delta, at the western end of Hangzhou Bay, in the lower reaches of the Qiantang River, and at the southern end of Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. It is an important and central city in the Yangtze River Delta and a traffic hub in southeast China.

       Eight districtsShangcheng, Xiacheng, Gongshu, Xihu, Jianggan, Binjiang, Xiaoshan, and Yuhang, and five counties (county-level cities)Fuyang, Lin'an, Jiande, Tonglu, and Chun'an are under the jurisdiction of Hangzhou. The total area of the city is 16,596 km2 with a population of 6,663,100.

    It was the capital of the Southern Sung dynasty from 1132 to 1276, when it was sacked by Kublai Khan. In the Southern Sung period , Hangzhou rich with a thriving silk trade, was a center of art, literature, and scholarship and a cosmopolitan city with a large colony of foreign merchantsArabs, Persians, and Nestorian Christians.
Hangzhou locates close to China east coast, in the lower reaches of the Qiantang River and at the southern end of the Grand Canal (Beijing - Hangzhou). The distance between Hangzhou and Shanghai is 200 kilometers, which is connected by the railway and highway.
