Vastly different from Western medicine, traditional Chinese medicine takes an integral view of human health, being is rooted in inner canon and pathology. Chinese Medicine takes treatment according to the unique methodology of Syndrome Differentiation. Chinese Medicine uses four methods of diagnosis, which are: observation, auscultation and olfaction, interrogation, pulse taking and palpation. Traditional Chinese Medicine also emphasizes the use of Chinese herbs. Throughout the history of Chinese Medicine's development, Hangzhou has always been a very important city. It was once the center of Chinese Medicine in Southern China. During the Qing Dynasty, there was a saying: “In the North, there’s Tongrentang Chinese Medicine Pharmacy... and in the South, there’s Huqingyutang Chinese Medicine Pharmacy.” Huqingyutang was the one located in Hangzhou.
