Food for Thought… 2017-06-27
Hangzhou, reputed as “Food Paradise”, is home to a number of long-standing traditional restaurants such as Lou Wai Lou, Zhi Wei Guang and Grandma’s Kitchen (which opened its first branch in America last year) as well as a considerable amount of new and unique ones. If you have ever wondered what paradise was like then take a look at the following:

Varne Buffet

Varne Buffet, opened 20 May 2016, is the first Underwater Buffet in Hangzhou and covers an area of 2600 sq m with 500 dining seats. The highlight of the restaurant is its giant column-shaped “underwater theater” which offers people a 360 degree view of the mysterious sea.

Before reaching the restaurant people pass an “underwater tunnel” where stairs, climbing to the second floor, are decorated with blue lights and sea plants mimicking that of a seabed. Upon arrival at the second floor what greets you is a giant column-shaped tank with a diameter of 9 meters, positioning you instantly in the magical world of sea. The giant tank boasts over a thousand marine creatures such as sea turtles and little sharks and in addition to these water lovers are a number of synchronized swimming athletes dressed like mermaids. With an impressive and extensive menu and entertainment second to none you will be glad you dived into this mouth-watering restaurant.
