With fine weather a walk may be the best way in which to appreciate this touristic city and whether it’s with friends or family choosing any one of the top six scenic roads is surely the route to happiness.
Beishan Road (北山路)
When it comes to Hangzhou’s scenic roads it is Beishan Road that stands out from its crowds and regardless of season, with verdant hills, long standing villas, museums and the picturesque West Lake, the road is always charming. Starting from the Broken Bridge and ending at Yanggong Causeway the road is approximately 3 km.
Nanshan Road (南山路)
Nanshan Road, another picturesque road, faces the calm West Lake and is lined by antique houses and cafés, full of strong cultural atmosphere. At dusk you can see Leifeng Pagoda glowing in the distance and even sometimes you can hear the evening bell ringing at Nanping Hill. Wander along the road and you will also be greeted with Orioles Singing in the Willows Park and the Temple to King Qians.
Yanggong Causeway (杨公堤)
As one of the three famous causeways surrounding the West Lake, Yanggong Causeway is a romantic route for both cyclists and walkers. Scenic spots found here are the ‘Breeze-ruffled Lotus at Quyuan Garden (曲院风荷)’, Gold Sand Harbor (金沙港), Maojiabu Scenic Area (茅家埠风景区) and ‘Viewing Fish at Flower Pond (花港观鱼)’.
Longjing Road (龙井路)
Lying silently amongst hills, Longjing Road is accompanied by water, 18 imperial tea trees and an age-long history. What is also worth mentioning is that it is home to the famous West Lake Longjing Tea.
Whether driving, cycling or walking the maple and ginkgo trees together with the natural surroundings only bring you closer to a world full of culture, history and beautiful imagination.
Wansongling Road (万松岭路)
A road of character and culture Wansongling Road extends and revitalizes the special cultural system and architectural style of ‘imperial site’ and is 1800 meters long and 12.5 meters wide, starting from the intersection of Nanshan Road and ending at Zhongshan South Road.
The road is also home to the Zhejiang Art Museum, Wansong Academy, provincial revolutionary martyr's monument and Hangzhou’s navy cadets.
Shuguang Road (曙光路)
The journey from Zhejiang Library to the intersection of Baochu Road is the most featured section of Shuguang Road, where about 5-6 meters high plane trees shade the road and walking, hiking and shopping are all readily accessible.
