Spring Festival in Full Bloom… 2017-06-27
With Spring Festival fast approaching and spring not far behind it, the West Lake Spring Flower Exhibition has already begun to bloom and in doing so has added more color to an already glowing season.

On February 1 the Temple to King Qians (near Orioles Singing in the Willows) welcomed in the annual West Lake Spring Flower Exhibition. As 2016 is the Chinese year of monkey this year's exhibition is themed on 'Golden Monkey Celebrating the Arrival of Spring' and will be on display until February 21.

The flower exhibition showcases a number of indoor and outdoor floral pieces, some of which express auspicious meanings such as the 'Concert for the Year of Monkey' and 'Monkeys to Welcome in the New Year'. The flowers in these displays include winter genies – bulb flowers (lily, crocus and daffodil), traditional winter flowers (plum blossom, Chinese flowering apple and camellia) and festive ornamental fruits (kumquat and orange).

Enter inside the temple and you will come face to face with a world of flowers whose renowned species include the smallest orchid in the world - the mini orchid and the elegant denphale whose fame has risen since the television series 'Go Princess Go' went viral on the internet.

Also included in the exhibition, which some may say are this year's highlight, are a wide variety of fat plants which include rare species from South Africa and Mexico and the monkey tail plant, viewed as this year's mascot for its resemblance to a monkey's tail.

If interested, you can also purchase a plant which will be auctioned for charity during the flower exhibition.
