Five to Visit to Enjoy the Winter in Hangzhou 2017-06-27
Hangzhou, situated in the subtropical zone, is blessed with four distinct seasons, with spring characterized by pink peach blossoms and green willow trees competing for beauty, summer lotus flowers setting off a sea of green and the autumn air full of osmanthus fragrance. To enjoy the winter in Hangzhou, you may want to start with the following five places.

Changle Forest Farm in Yuhang (余杭长乐林场)

The average altitude of Changle Forest Farm is from 100 to 200 meters, with the highest point at 800 meters. Changle is a natural forest farm and has remained intact throughout the years. Inside the forest farm are towering camphor, maple and cedar trees, which show different colors in early winter. Seen from afar, the area is a mosaic of colors.

Xixi National Wetland Park (西溪湿地)

At this time of the year, the over 300 mu (1 mu equals about 666 sq. m) reed fields inside Xixi are dressed in white. Xixi in winter boasts of reeds swaying in the breeze, forming a white wave washing towards you, reed catkins flying freely in the sky like snowflakes dropping from the heavens and drifting away in the zigzagging creeks. In such a poetic setting, accompanied with gliding views of the bank landscape, sipping a cup of tea and listening to Yuejue Opera on a boat is how one can get the essence of Xixi in Winter.

Yaolin Wonderland in Tonglu (桐庐瑶琳仙境)

Yaolin Wonderland is a natural karst cave featuring stalactites and stalagmites of different formations. Since the temperature inside the cave stays around 20 degrees centigrade all year round, it’s the best place to beat not only the summer heat but the winter frost as well.

Daming Mountain Skiing Resort in Lin’an (临安大明山滑雪场)

The approx. 1200-meter-high Wansongling Peak situated beside Daming Lake is home to the Daming Mountain Skiiing Resort which consists of 5000 sq. m snow playing zone and 5000 sq. m professional skiing zone, the largest outdoor downhill skiing resort in East China.

Skiing in Daming Mountain is about experiencing the thrilling feeling brought on by the rapid change of speed, and the route on snow is the best way to immerse oneself in the spirit of an active winter.

West Lake

The last but not the least important to visit is the West Lake, a must have on your Hangzhou trip. There is a saying prevalent among tourists -  “The West Lake is beautiful on sunny days, charming on rainy days, gorgeous on foggy days and simply stunning on snowy days.”

For a glimpse of the stunning views of West Lake coated in white and for those tired of being pushed around by swarms of tourists, Maojibu, Turtle Pond, Yuhu Bay around the West Lake all make for nice getaways and vantage points from where to view West Lake.
