Wushan Songyun Town - Representative of Hangzhou History & Culture
As the host of the Asian Games in 2022, Hangzhou is bound to draw attention to its magnificent West Lake and Grand Canal but also, by then, numbers of visitors will also be attracted to Wushan Songyun Town (吴山宋韵小镇), a venue which will represent the profound history and in depth culture of Hangzhou city.
Over the next three years Shangcheng District will be launching a mega campaign to build Wushan Songyun Town and with a gross investment of 7.6 billion RMB the standards are equally set quite high. The plan is to build Songyun Town on the basis of the architectural and historical renovations of Qinghefang Street, Zhongshan Road and Wuliu Lane, integrated with the resources from Qingbo, Xiaoying and Ziyang Streets. The overall planned area, focused around Wushan Mountain, will reach as far as 3.7 sq km.
Wushan Songyun Town will provide an ancient cultural and touristic experience and a cultural tour themed with ‘150 years of Southern Song’. In the future visitors will be able to see a brand-new Song Dynasty Town, integrated with folklore, characteristic business, leisure, entertainment, foods and healthy medical care.
The Drum Tower will be the south entrance to Songyun Town which will, eventually, develop into a destination known as the Southern Song cultural experience. 3D fiction micro films on the Song Dynasty, live shows such as the Legend of White Snake, stories on national hero Yue Fei and a parade of Southern Song Dynasty soldiers are just some of the highlights.
Hefang Street will be focusing on folklore and intangible culture and, in one form or another, the city’s time-honored brands including the Southern Song Official Kiln, Zhang Xiaoquan Scissors, Wang Xingji Fan and Zhu Bingren Bronze Art Museum will also have important roles to play.
Southern Song Imperial Street will be putting the emphasis on commercial and tourism development and Gaoyin Street, Kuixiang No.15 and Zhongshan Road S. will promote a series of Southern Song snacks and dishes.
Laodong Road will develop a unique cultural corridor where Southern Song culture festivals, memorial ceremonies for Confucius and Song Dynasty learning lectures will be held.
Wuliu Lane, having already introduced 4 time-honored traditional medical stores and an international rehabilitation nursing center, will be the hub for health and medical care.
To get to this one-stop cultural destination a special tourist line will be launched and will run, next year, from Hangzhou Railway Station directly to Wushan Songyun Town.
The sun is shining and the autumn wind is just right. In such good weather, it is a good idea to travel back in time in the Hangzhou Confucius Temple. Here, you can cultivate your mind and soul. In the temple, tablets can be seen everywhere, positioning people instantly in the ancient seat of learning in the capital city of the Southern Song Dynasty. Here, you can stop and appreciate the ancient moss-covered stone tiles, which seems to narrate the thousands-of-year history of the Confucius Temple.
