Noted as one of ‘Seven Ancient Capitals in China’, Hangzhou has served as the capital for two nations: one is the Wuyue Kingdom (907–78) during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms Period under the name of Xifu and the other is ancient China during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279) with the name of Lin’an. It is the southern terminus of Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal leading to the then capital – Beijing during the Sui Dynasty (581–618 AD) and is blessed with the fabulous West Lake surrounded by range upon range of verdant mountains.


With its time-honored history, profound culture, booming economy and heavenly scenery, Hangzhou has attracted numerous politicians, artists, scholars and recluses in history to come here and made them unwilling to leave.
