Located in subtropical zone with four distinct seasons, Hangzhou is endowed with a favorable climate, fertile land and rich resources which in turn make it the favorite in history. Noted as one of ‘Seven Ancient Capitals in China’, Hangzhou has served as the capital for two nations: one is the Wuyue Kingdom (907–78) during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms Period under the name of Xifu and the other is ancient China during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279) with the name of Lin’an. In addition, Hangzhou boasts of one human wonder and one natural wonder. It is the southern terminus of Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal leading to the then capital – Beijing during the Sui Dynasty (581–618 AD) and is blessed with the fabulous West Lake surrounded by range upon range of verdant mountains.


With its time-honored history, profound culture, booming economy and heavenly scenery, Hangzhou has attracted numerous politicians, artists, scholars and recluses in history to come here and made them unwilling to leave. Hangzhou’s Nine Landmarks Besides West Lake2017-08-22

Operas Take Center Stage in Hangzhou2017-08-22
For six years, the Hangzhou Contemporary Theater Festival has presented Hangzhou people with over 100 spectacular performances and 59 classical operas from all over the world. In the process, the festival has evolved into an important platform for international art and culture exchange. In 2017, the Hangzhou Contemporary Theater Festival will show once again its charm in Hangzhou from September 15 to 28.
