Museums – Free Summer Hang-out 2019-09-19
Hangzhou, one of the ‘Seven Ancient Capitals of China,' boasts both time-honoured history and profound culture, which is evident from the many museums spread across the city. Featuring spacious areas, crisp layouts, free air-conditioning and most importantly, free entrance, these museums are nice places for people to hang out in the sweltering Hangzhou summer - especially for kids, who are able to acquire knowledge while enjoying the cool environment.

Zhejiang Museum of Natural History

Built in 1929, Zhejiang Museum of Natural History is one of the oldest museums of China and is one of the few provincial nature museums in China as well. It is a great place to learn about nature, as the museum has collected 150 thousand pieces of animal and plant specimens and has also recorded years of history and development that the entire world has undergone. In addition, the numerous academic studies that have been conducted in the museum offer visitors a deep insight into the marvellous natural world. High-end technologies are also used to vividly display the story between human beings and nature. To kids, the giant, life-like dinosaur models are a big draw.

Zhejiang Provincial Museum is a comprehensive humanities museum - the biggest of its kind in Zhejiang Province - with its collection surpassing 100 thousand items. It is a must-visit site in Hangzhou for people who desire to learn all about Zhejiang, from its history to its folk customs. Displayed in the museum are a wealth of national treasures, including pottery, lacquer, wood, bone and ivory artifacts from Hemudu culture (a Neolithic culture flourished in Hangzhou); Jade ware and silk embroidery from Liangzhu culture (the last Neolithic jade culture in the Yangtze River Delta of China); bronze ware from the Sate of Yue (11th century BC–473 BC); celadons from Yue Kiln, Longquan Kiln and Southern Song Kiln; and calligraphy and painting works from the Ming (1368–1644) and Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

National Wetland Museum of China

The museum is located beside the Xixi National Wetland Park of Hangzhou, and inside Xixi Brook, which is a business center packed with numerous restaurants serving delicious dishes while simultaneously boasting picture-perfect scenery. As it is the landmark building of Xixi National Wetland Park, the main building complex of the museum is entirely covered in green and blends perfectly into the surrounding man-made mountains to complement its environment.

National Wetland Museum of China is the first of its kind. It is themed on wetlands and serves to collect, study, and display items while educating and entertaining guests. There is no better place in Hangzhou - or even in all of China - than the National Wetland Museum of China to learn about wetlands. In the museum, typical wetland landscapes across the globe are recreated to allow viewers to have a better understanding of a wetland environment. The beauty of wetlands is clearly highlighted and displayed through multi-media methods such as pictures and illustrations, as well as a circular-screen theater and a 4-D theater.
