Appreciate Sweet-scented Osmanthus in Xianghu Lake 2019-06-24
The yearly season of appreciating sweet-scented osmanthus is forthcoming. If you are worrying about the crowds in the West lake scenic area, the quiet Xianghu Lake scenic area will be a good choice. Around September 20 will be best time for appreciating the sweet-scented osmanthus if the temperature keeps around 30℃.

Xianghu Lake scenic area features thousands of osmanthus trees mainly in Latifolius and Thunbergii Groups. The western Xianghu Fishing Village concentrates more than 400 osmanthus trees. When they are all in full bloom, the whole area will be filled with the thick fragrance of flowers. The eastern Yuefeng Lou(越风楼) is also a nice place for appreciating sweet-scented osmanthus with broad view and beautiful lake scenery.

At the west side of Chengshan Memorial Arch, a hundred-year-old osmanthus tree is heralded as “the king of osmanthus trees in Xianghu Lake scenic area”. It is worth appreciating and taking photos.

The Xianghu Lake scenic area has launched a team tour of “appreciating sweet-scented osmanthus and tasting tea in autumn”. Tickets are available at the Xianglifang (湘里坊) Tourist Center.  The route starts from Xiasun Wharf, through several scenic spots, to Chengshan Square.

In the garden are grown over 50 kinds of lotus flowers. Here, you are able to see the spectacular view of “The emerald lotus leaves reach as far as where water and skies meet, and lotus blossoms bathing in sunshine exhibit a distinctive dazzling pink”, which is vividly depicted in a renowned Chinese poem.
