Hunting for Delicacies — Xinyifang Food Street
About 16 meters in width and 500 meters in length, Xinyifang Food Street (信义坊美食街) mimicks the layout of ancient river streets. Rows of old-style buildings are erected orderly at both banks of Yuhang Tang River (余杭塘河) and three bridges are built to connect the banks. The street is a typical example of Jiangnan river streets, highlighted by the culture of the Grand Canal. It features unique scenery of “river inside the street and street along the river”. Visitors can either stroll along the river, or stand high to view the majestic Grand Canal.
Besides being an excellent place to experience the culture of the Grand Canal, Xinyifang is also a renowned food street in Hangzhou, boasting the gathering place of delicacies around Zhejiang Province such as Quzhou dishes (衢州), Chongqing Cuisine(重庆), and Wenzhou dishes (温州) etc, catering to every taste.
Nongming Shifu (浓铭食府) Stepping into the restaurant, it's like getting invited into a local farmhouse. Everything here is simple, original but elegant, less commercialized. Opening the menu, you will find you haven’t heard most of its dishes, let alone taste them.
Two of the most popular dishes in the restaurant is Hometown Pork with Chopped Scallion (老家葱花肉) and Quanjiafu (全家福: hotchpotch). Hometown Pork with Chopped Scallion is an essential dish in a village banquet. Quanjiafu is a hotchpotch of various lake products like Thousand-lake islet organic fishes, lake crabs (湖蟹), clams, dried shrimps(虾干) etc. It tastes extremely fresh and rich in nutrition.
