Great Hiking and Views 2017-06-27

The best thing to do in spring is to invite some of your friends to hike in a sunny day, breathing fresh air, and enjoying the unique beauty of Hangzhou.

Top One: Nine Creeks Meandering Through a Misty Forest (九溪烟树)

The attraction offers you two different paths, both of which are a lot of fun. What will meet you first is a stretch of even and broad concrete road, which is flanked by pieces of verdant paddy fields and rows of farmhouses. When you walk further and further, a zigzag cobblestone path will welcome you. This section is the essence of the hiking route. You will see range upon range of mountains lining at the both sides of the path and a zigzag stream crossing and re-crossing the cobblestone path. You might as well take your shoes off and enjoy the fun of walking barefoot. Lush green tea bushes on the mountains are a lure too. If you are tired, you can have a rest and find a table by the window in a teahouse to enjoy the beautiful view outside while you are having a cup of Lonjing Green Tea.

Top Two: Meiling Road (梅灵路) to Lingyin Temple and Meijiawu Village (梅家坞)

Along Meiling Road scatter many historical relics like Sansheng Stone (Three Lives Stone: one of Sixteen Historical Relics around West Lake) in the Upper Tianzhu (上天竺), Lingyin Temple, Peak Flying from Afar and Tianzhu Fair for Pilgrims. In addition, seen from Meiling Road, the scenery around is captivating: mountains surrounded by clouds, West Lake enveloped by mist, idyllic view of tea bushes and farmhouses in Meijiawu Village.

Top Three: Qixia Hill (栖霞岭)

Qixia Hill is famous as the burial place of the famous national folk hero of the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279) – General Yue Fei. Perhaps for the uprightness of General Yue Fei, Qixia Hill is always covered with verdant trees. In addition, on Qixia Hill are hidden the enchanting “Five Caves of Qixia”- Ziyun Cave (Purple Cloud Cave), Jingu Cave (Golden Drum Cave), Bianfu Cave (Bat Cave), Woyun Cave (Sleeping Cloud Cave) and Huanglong Cave (Yellow Dragon Cave), of which Huanglong Cave is the most popular one.

Top Four: Bamboo-lined Path at Yunqi (云栖竹径)

Yunqi means clouds lingering. Yunqi Hill got its name from the auspicious colored clouds lingering on the hill. The attraction tops “Top Ten Views of West Lake” and is widely popular for its dense bamboo forest lining along a stone-paved footpath. It’s a great enjoyment to stroll along the path, by the side of which zigzags a murmuring stream. In the forest, birds and insects are singing, and ancient trees and rare plants are waiting for you to discover.

Top Five: Mailing Ancient Path (麦岭古道)

In ancient times there was no road leading to Lingyin and Tianzhu so in order for Hangzhou citizens to pay pilgrimage they had to cross the West Lake by boat. This path then became known as the Mailing Ancient Path where many literary men left behind their works of art and footprints which can still be seen to this very day.
