Three Must-Watch Shows in Hangzhou 2017-06-27

Impression West Lake (印象西湖)


Directed by the directors of the opening and closing ceremony of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Impression West Lake is one of the top live-action performances in China. Using water as its stage and mountains as the background, Impression West Lake perfectly combines the picturesque scenery of West Lake with the culture and history of Hangzhou. Through highlighting the representative elements in the history and culture of Hangzhou, audience can get a deep understanding of Hangzhou.

 

 

Although the show has no lines, it’s a feast of music. The show invited the world-famous musician Kitaro Matsuri to compose the background music and the popular Chinese singer Zhang Liangyin (张靓颖) to perform the theme song. His ethereal music and her heavenly voice further enhanced the romantic charm of West Lake. All these bring the audience into the dream like environment of romantic Hangzhou.

Romance of the Song Dynasty (宋城千古情)


Unlike Impression West Lake, Romance of the Song Dynasty is an indoor and panorama style large-scale performance. With the largest number of audience and performing times in the world, the show is renowned as three famous shows in the world along with “O Show” in Las Vegas and “Moulin Rouge” in Paris. It applies high-tech visual and audio techniques to enhance its stage effect, which definitely will give tourists a ground-breaking visual feast.

 

 

 

As their slogan "Give us one day, we'll give you one thousand years! " shows, Romance of the Song Dynasty focuses on the over-one-thousand-year history of Hangzhou. Local allusions and folklore of Hangzhou such as the Legend of the White Snake 《白蛇传》, the Butterfly Lovers《梁山伯与祝英台》, stories of General Yue Fei’s leading the defense against Jin invaders《岳飞抗金》etc are presented in artistic forms of singing, dancing, and acrobatics. In addition, the show did a great job in interaction with audience, giving audience a chance to participate in the history of Hangzhou.

Night of West Lake (西湖之夜)


Night of West Lake is a famous night indoor show and renowned as one of “Top Three Shows in Hangzhou” along with Impression West Lake and Romance of the Song Dynasty. Different from the above two shows, the Night of West Lake aims to present the features of Hangzhou as “Leisure Center of the Orient” and “City with High-qualified Life Standard”.

 

 

 

Lasting for one hour, the shows consists of six parts which showcases the culture of Hangzhou as the capital of Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), the City of Love, the Capital of Tea, the Home of Silk, and the Buddhist Center. Through using performances of Chinese Kung Fu, acrobatics, Jiangnan folk music and Yue Opera (a form of Chinese opera founded around 1906), over a hundred performers well present Hangzhou in a vivid way.
