Review of West Lake Included on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2011 2017-06-27
Hangzhou — On June 24, 2011, West Lake was included in UNSECO's World Heritage List by the World Heritage Committee. It was described as "having influenced garden design in the rest of China as well as Japan and Korea over the centuries and bearing an exceptional testimony to the cultural tradition of improving landscapes to create a series of vistas reflecting an idealised fusion between humans and nature."

During the past two years, the ranking of West Lake Scenic Area in such high esteem has created a tourist windfall. There has been a sharp increase in the number of international tourists adding Hangzhou's West Lake to their China travel itineraries.

Here is an interview of Li Hong, Director General of Hangzhou Tourism Commission on July, 10, 2011, in which he emphasized the uniqueness of West Lake and expressed his expectation of more international tourists coming to Hangzhou to discover West Lake’s beauty.
