Xiaoshao Ancient Path

Xiaoshao Ancient Path

Xiaoshao Ancient Path is an autumn favorite with Hangzhou people. The ancient path is located inside a small village in Xiaoshan District called Huajiadian Village (华家垫村). In ancient times, people from Xiaoshan District took to this path to get to Shaoxing city, hence the name Xiaoshao (combination of first words of the two areas). Xiaoshao Ancient Path has been referred to a lot in historical documents and the part inside Huajiadian Village is the best-preserved one, paved with building stones and surrounded by bamboo trees. It is truly beautiful.

Jingshan Greenway

Jingshan Greenway

Although not as majestic as Mount Tai (head of Five Great Mountains of China) nor as dangerous as Mount Hua (one of Five Great Mountains of China), Jingshan Mountain features unique characteristics, like endless stretches of bamboo forests and gurgling streams shrouded by mist and fog. Stretching from Jingshan Town (径山镇) to Luniao Town (鸬鸟镇), Jingshan Greenway in Jingshan Mountain has a length of 18 kilometers and along its way are eleven courier stations. To highlight its naturality, simplicity, and antiquity, even the protection railings of the entire Jingshan Greenway are all made of wood, bamboo, and hemp ropes.

Route One:

Shanshuijian Park (shan shui jian gong yuan 山水见公园) → Shuangxi Stream (shuang xi 双溪) → Dajingshan Tourist Center (da jing shan lv you ji san zhong xin 大径山旅游集散中心) → No. 1 Village of Buddhist Tea (chan cha di yi cun 禅茶第一村)

Halfway along the path you will come across Dajingshan Tourist Center, which features white walls and black tiles, hiding inside a bamboo forest. Hike westward in the direction of Jingshan Mountain, and you will reach the No. 1 Village of Buddhist Tea, which boasts a strong Buddhist atmosphere and an idyllic scene of mountains and water. Hiking further, the Ancient Jingshan Temple is there for you to explore.

Longmenshan Forest Ancient Path

Longmenshan Forest Ancient Path

Longmenshan Forest Ancient Path is the longest tourist path, the hardest to hike, and the one with the most abundant landscapes and the most viewable sceneries among all forty-eight forest ancient paths in Fuyang District. Hiking along Longmenshan Forest Ancient Path, one can ascend the highest peak in Fuyang District – the 1068-meter-high Xingmei Mountain (杏梅尖).

The Longmen Ancient Town at the foot of Longmen Mountain is a well-preserved historical town and the home of descendants of Sun Quan, Great Emperor of Wu and the founder of the state of Eastern Wu during China’s Three Kingdoms period. Ninety percent of the residents here are surnamed Sun and they have been settled there for over a century. To date, the ancient town has still preserved the ancient building groups from the Ming and Qing dynasties, which are rarely seen in the Jiangnan region (roughly refers to areas to the south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River). With the population of Sun Quan’s descendants increasing, new residential buildings and courtyards were built, and old ones expanded and connected, making the place like a maze.

Route One:

Longmen Ancient Town → Yao Wu (yao wu 瑶坞) → Xing Mei Wu (xing mei wu 杏梅坞) → Xingmei Mountain (xing mei jian 杏梅尖)

Highlights:

Most parts of the ancient path are stone steps, with some parts being unsurfaced and graveled , all flanked by verdant trees. Accompanied by gurgling streams, on the path, one will constantly spot mountain streams and pools, and hidden treasures, such as the Longmen Waterfall, which is definitely worth checking out.
