Brief of Outer Tongwu Village
Outer Tongwu Village, a major producer of Longjing tea, is located in Longwu tea base also known as “Wandan Tea Village” which is three kilometers northeast of Zhuantang Street, West Lake District, Hangzhou. The whole village borders mountains in the east, Tangjiaqiao in the south, Inner tongwu in the west and Daqing in the north.
With 1260 mu of mountain forest and 282 mu of tea plantation, it covers a total area of 130 hectares. In the early days of liberation, the average annual tea income per person was 250 RMB which ranked low in Longwu region. But by 2008, the whole village had accumulated 19 enterprises which covered industrial manufacture, artistic design and the renting of steel pipes, bringing the gross social output to 83 million RMB and the per capita income to 11611 RMB.
So far, in virtue of its unique natural resources and rich human resources, Outer Tongwu Village has built three art communities and five art studios which, in collaboration with China Academy of Art, have been reconstructed from peasant households. About 20 artists have opened their studios for oil painting, traditional Chinese painting, sculpture, ceramics and photography and the overall structure size is 6000 sq m.
Next, the village plans to deeply excavate the cultural connotations of the Zhude spirit, by planting pomegranates and developing pomegranate landscapes to build an integrated art village with pomegranate, culture and art. Its successful transformation will change the way for economic growth, expand income opportunities which will, in turn, boost the new rural construction of the West Lake District.
