Brief of Zhuge Bagua Village

Zhuge Bagua Village is a national scenic area in Lanxi City, and by far, the largest known gathering place for the descendants of Zhuge Liang, a most well-known strategist in Chinese history and a chancellor of the state of Shu during the Three Kingdoms Period (220-280). Inside the village, houses are so arranged to resemble ‘the Eight Diagrams (Bagua)’, an eight-sided pattern diagram used in Taoism.

Millions of tourists are attracted by its antique beauty every year. Houses built in Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1912) Dynasty totals more than 200. Top attractions including Ancient Commercial Street, Bell Pond, folk houses and Herb Ecology Garden, are exceptional with traditional Chinese ornaments.

Local residents attach great importance to the inheritance of traditional Chinese medicine because Zhuge Liang exhorted them that good medicine enhanced a country. Therefore, the knowledge and techniques are passed down from generation to generation, which contributes a lot to the development of traditional Chinese culture of the village and makes Zhuge Bagua Village a place with profound culture.
