Xiling Seal-engravers’ Society is the oldest, most successful and influential folk art association which serves as a wonderful place to study engraving, painting and calligraphy.

Founded by four famous seal cutting experts, Ding Fuzhi, Wang Fuan, Wu Yin and Ye Mingwei, in 1905, Xiling Seal-engravers’ Society has a history of over one hundred years. Its great achievements in seal-engraving and massive art collection helped it gain worldwide fame. Early in 1961, it was included as a key cultural relic protection unit of Zhejiang province and in 2001, a national key cultural relic protection unit. Furthermore, UNESCO added Chinese seal-engraving to its list of intangible heritage properties of humanity in 2009.

Xiling Seal-engravers’ Society is located on the Solitary Hill in West Lake Scenic Area, east to Bai Causeway and west to Xiling Bridge. On the hill, elegant pavilions are well-arranged to create an exquisite classical garden. In addition to the picturesque view, a large quantity of seals, calligraphic works and paintings, from traditional to modern, oriental to western, are kept here.

In conclusion, Xiling Seal-engravers’ Society is a place where tourists have great fun appreciating exquisite works as well as graceful landscape.
