    Brief of Fengshan Water Gate

Fengshan Water Gate (凤山水城门遗址) straddles the Zhonghe River as an iconic landmark of Hangzhou. It is over 600 years old, Hangzhou’s only surviving old bridge dating over 6 centuries.

Fengshan Water Gate consists of two arched bridges. Above the water gate stands a pavilion which can accommodate over 100 soldiers. It serves as a watch tower and flood-adjust water gate meanwhile. What a pity this pavilion is out of repair. In the 1980s, Fengshan Water Gate underwent a facelift and a park was constructed nearby.

Following the Zhongshan Nanlu (Zhongshan South Road中山南路) and head southward till the point where Zhongshan Nanlu meets Zhonghe Road, you can see Fengshan Water Gate.

The navy brick walls remind you of its long history. The riverbank is planted with plenty of trees. During spring, it radiates with colors, sights and scents. The wall relief paintings detailing the marriage customs, daily life and canal life are both entertaining and enlightening.

In 2014, Fengshan Water Gate was evaluated as one of the 11 heritage sites along the Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal –Hangzhou Section.
