During the 2016 Hangzhou G20 Summit, a landscape live-action performance entitled “Enduring Memories of Hangzhou” enlightened the world. Directed by Zhang Yimou, this most spectacular show is now getting ready to return when, on March 18, it will once again take center stage and dazzle you with all its glory.
In order to share “Enduring Memories of Hangzhou” with the general public, the creative team behind the show made some modifications to the original art work on the basis of retaining the major content of the G20’s performance. The vision back then was to replay it in a poetic way full of a thousand years of Chinese culture, in multiple art forms of music, dance and vision, to be condensed at the West Lake and then presented to the world.
With the rippling waters of the West Lake as the main stage, all the myths and legends about the West Lake revive themselves naturally in the performance during which you will transcend into a past trance of a thousand years. The adoption of a hidden lifting bleacher allows every viewing platform to be a fantastic place for admiring the panoramic views of the West Lake. The surround-sound system which, combined with the large-scale directional sound system, brings an electrifying music experience.
Romance of the Song Dynasty is a panoramic-style indoor show which is apparently as famous as “O Show” in Las Vegas and “Moulin Rouge” in Paris. With high-tech visual and audio techniques enhancing its stage effects, the millions of spectators that visit each year are never disappointed with the spectacle that unfurls in front of their eyes.
With "Give us one day, we'll give you one thousand years" as their slogan, it is no surprise that Romance of the Song Dynasty focuses on Hangzhou and its over-one-thousand-year history. Folk and legendary tales such as the Legend of the White Snake (白蛇传) and the Butterfly Lovers (梁山伯与祝英台) are artistically presented in the form of singing, dancing, and acrobatics. In addition, the show interacts well with the audience enabling you to step into the past and participate in the ancient history of Hangzhou.
The Legend of Romance is another masterpiece after Romance of the Song Dynasty and it is also an indoor live-action performance that takes place in Hangzhou Paradise Park. Different from Romance of the Song Dynasty, the focus of the Legend of Romance is on the history of Wu State and Yue State.
Applying high-end technology and employing professional directors and dancers, the performance will definitely give you a feast to both the eyes and ears. The performance lasts for one hour and consists of one prelude and four scenes. The prelude narrates the background of the story: the fall of the State of Yue and King Goujian’s descending to a hostage of Wu. The first and second scenes tell the story of Xi Shi – a once careless country girl – becoming a concubine of King Fu Chai of Wu (夫差) under the arrangement of King Goujian as a part of his restoration plan. In the third scene, King Goujian finally defeats King Fu Chai and recovers the lost territory. The last scene shows that on this ancient battlefield of Wu and Yue, diligent Hangzhou people have created the charming Hangzhou.
